Ruffwear Grip Trex Dog Boots

After Maia ruptured her left CCL (cranial cruciate ligament), she had a very difficult time getting traction on our travertine tiles we have throughout the house due to her leg being weaker and her not putting much weight on it. Not only did we purchase a great deal of rugs to cover the tile in anticipation of her upcoming surgery, but we needed to find some boots that would give her good traction and also allow her feet to breathe that she could wear for extended periods. At first we bought her some socks that have a grippy piece of rubber on the bottom but not only do they start to come off easily, the rubber grippy section gets easily turned around after about one minute of walking so basically

her paw is on the fabric, and that makes it even more difficult for her to get traction on the tile. She does has a pair of thorn proof boots that I bought several years back thatshe  would wear when she used to run around in the desert, but those are bulky and made of thick nylon and not very breathable, so I didn’t want to use those. Then I came across Ruffwear Grip Tex boots, and these things are perfect, not only do they give Maia plenty of traction on the tile with the Vibram outsole, but they have a mesh upper that is lightweight and breathable. When we know we are going to have company over (she gets excited when people come to visit and could easily fall down) or when we go the veterinarian, I just pop the boots on her back feet and viola, instant grip. She doesn’t really seem to mind them too much either and gets used to them on her back legs pretty quickly.  Since Maia doesn’t seem to have any issues with her front legs, I don’t even bother putting the front boots on, but I have them just in case.  I generally only use them in the house or when going to see her doctor, but to get her used to them we did go for several walks in the desert and they performed just as good outdoors as indoors. Glad I found them!

If you have an older dog , especially a larger breed dog that is struggling with maintaining their traction on tile or hardwood surfaces, I couldn’t recommend these enough, with the mesh upper they are super breathable and lightweight and can be worn for extended periods, which is great, especially here in Arizona where it can get quite warm! Maia gives them two paws up.
